Colossians 3:17  And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Never attended our services before?

We are glad that you are considering worshipping with us. At the Morrison church of Christ, we strive to worship God in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24), which means we must focus on both the attitude God desires in worship and the actions He demands. God commands that five elements be involved in our worship to Him:

  • We are commanded to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). When the disciples came together, they prayed (cf. Acts 2:42).

  • The Lord instituted the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:26-29). Paul recounted this event and underscored our obligation to examine ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:17ff). The church of the 1st century partook on the first day of the week, whenever they came together (Acts 20:7).

  • We are commanded to give on the first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) and to do so cheerfully and as we have been prospered (2 Corinthians 9:7).

  • We are commanded to sing praises to God (Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:19). This is to be acapella (literally, “in the style of the church”), for it must be:

*reciprocal (to one another; cannot be done with a choir or instruments that not all can play); and

*using our heart as the instrument, thus precluding man-made instruments in worship to God.

  • Preaching is an important part of worship, as people must hear the word of God in order to be saved (Romans 10:17). Our sermons will be Bible-based, instructional and practical.
